So says Al-Quds Al-Arabi in an article today. So far, no English media have picked up on the connection. Here's the summary:
At dawn on Tuesday morning, clashes between the Special Branch of Jordanian General Security and wanted, armed men resulted in four dead and at least five injured. The Jordanian security services were looking for a man who was previously "wanted" for running over two of their officers with a car. This guy was apparently among two people who had overrun a military checkpoint last week. The attack led to the death of a Jordanian officer.
After the attack, authorities were able to catch one of the criminals, who was also injured. However, his friends were able to smuggle him out of the hospital. Jordanian forces pursued the man to a house where armed clashed broke out. Unable to get the man out, the Jordanians destroyed the home, killing the wanted man. The victim's relatives later clashed with security forces, leading to a heightened state of tension in the city that continues until now. The victim and his family are close to the ultraconservative Salafi community in Ma'an.
What's interesting is that, according to reports, the military checkpoint was guarding a road that leads to a large desert palace of Emirati royal and vice president Sheikh Mohamad bin Rashed Al-Maktoom.
